Find answers to your most common questions about billing and payments at State Farm®.

Billing


Your policy number represents a specific policy you have with State Farm, such as an auto or homeowners policy.

The billing account number represents the account where billing and payment activity related to your policies is processed.


State Farm is implementing a new billing system to replace our existing billing system. This new system offers more options for you to receive and pay your bill.


Customers with a State Farm Billing account enjoy:

  • Easier to understand bills
  • More convenient ways to receive and pay bills

If you have received notice that one or more of your policies are moving or have moved to the new billing system, look out for these changes:

  • Your bill will have a new look with special features that make it easier to understand. 
  • You’ll get a new State Farm Billing account number for your auto, home or property policies. 
  • State Farm will no longer send bills electronically to your bank or payment service for policies that move over to the new billing system.
  • If you also have life, health, or non-private passenger vehicle policies (like a motorcycle or recreational vehicle) with State Farm, those policies will remain on your existing State Farm Payment Plan account, and you will receive two bills — one for your auto, home or property policies and one for your life, health, or non-private passenger vehicle policies. You’ll need to pay each of these bills separately. If you use AutoPay, you’ll see two transactions on your bank or credit card statement.

Your Billing and Payment Agreement explains the specifics of how your billing account works.


We only apply fees to State Farm Billing accounts when there is a:

Late payment: If a payment is not received by the bill due date, we will apply a late payment fee to your account.

Returned payment: If your financial institution returns your payment, we will apply a returned payment fee to your account. If you are new to State Farm Billing, lookout for an updated Billing and Payment Agreement that we will send along with an upcoming bill for more details.

If you think you were assessed a fee in error, contact your State Farm agent for help.


To pay more than one bill at a time, log in to the Payment Center: Insurance page and tap one of the Pay multiple bills links located directly above your bills.


Here are some reasons why you might not be able to see your bill online:

  • You aren't listed on the policy or billing account.        
  • We haven't prepared a bill notice yet.                  
  • You've already paid, or a payment is pending.
  • Your automated payment was declined, and a new bill hasn't been generated yet. 
  • The policy moved to a State Farm Billing account and may take up to three business days to appear online.

Yes. Your State Farm Billing account gives you the flexibility to change your due date for policies billed under that account.

Here’s what State Farm Billing accounts can expect when changing a bill’s due date:

  • The new due date will take effect on all future bills and apply to all policies on that billing account.
  • If you have already been billed for the current billing period and have a due date listed on a current billing statement, due date changes won’t take effect until the next bill is generated.
  • If you choose the 29th, 30th or 31st as your new due date, please keep in mind that some months are shorter and do not include those dates. For months in which your chosen due date does not occur, your bill due date will temporarily convert to the last day of the month.
  • If you are billed monthly and the due date is moved to within 19 days of the original due date, the amount due will show as zero due for that month but will be billed in your next installment.
  • Depending on the timing of the due date change, you may have a new bill due shortly after your last payment.

Payments


To make a payment online:

  1. First, log in to your online account.
  2. In the My bills section of My Accounts, click Manage bills.
  3. Tap the Make a Payment or Pay in Advance button next to the bill you want to pay.
  4. Follow the prompts to select your payment amount, payment date and payment method. Then submit your payment.

You can also make a payment without logging in. All you need is your phone number and date of birth.


Yes, you can select a new due date for future-dated bills.

You cannot select a new due date on the following:

  • Bills due today
  • Past-due or cancellation bills
  • Pay in advance payments on AutoPay accounts
  • Payments where you have selected Pay Other Amount
  • Bills paid with Apple Pay or Google Pay

There are a few reasons why you might not see an option to pay your bill:

  • You aren't named on the policy or the account, or you aren't listed as an account holder on the payment plan or billing account.
  • A bill notice has not yet been prepared for this policy, payment plan or billing account.
  • You may have already paid your bill, or a scheduled payment is pending. You can verify by logging in to your online account and checking the Insurance Billing and Payment History page.
  • The policy moved to a new billing account and could take up to three business days before it's visible online.
  • The policy isn’t enabled for online viewing or can’t be viewed or paid online. This includes recurring monthly life insurance accounts and some notices that include a renewal coverage offer.

If you cannot make a payment online, contact your State Farm agent.


It could take up to 24 hours for a payment made in your agent's office to reflect online. If it has been over 24 hours, please contact your agent.


We’ll process your payment on the date you selected. If the date falls on a weekend or holiday, we’ll process the payment the next business day.

Authorized payments appear online within 24 hours, but since payments are processed nightly Monday through Friday, recent payments may not display on the following pages for up to two business days:

Funds are withdrawn from your bank account one business day after we process the payment. In most cases, financial card charges complete the same day we process a payment.

AutoPay processing: If you are trying to confirm an AutoPay transaction, you should know that we process those payments on the date you selected. If the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, we’ll process your payment the next business day.

To verify the account your automated payments will process from, you can log in to Payment Center: Insurance and scroll down to Payment Methods to find the bank account or debit/credit card you use for your AutoPay method.


Regardless of how a payment is received, it should display on the Insurance Billing and Payment History page.

Updating your payment method can be simple.

Here’s how:

  1. Start by logging in to Payment Center: Insurance
  2. Select Manage bills
  3. Scroll down to Payment Methods

From here you can add a new payment method and edit or delete an existing payment method.

Note: A preferred payment method is a designated option for one-time payments, allowing you to pay without re-entering your card number or selecting a payment method each time. Keep in mind that updating your preferred payment method does not change your AutoPay settings. 


At this time, most policies and State Farm Billing accounts only accept payments for the total amount due.

Half payment options are available on some full-term auto policies.

If you have a State Farm Payment Plan account that isn’t enrolled in AutoPay, a partial payment option is available.

Here’s how to make a partial payment if you are eligible to do so:

  1. First, log in to your Make a payment page.
  2. Here, you’ll see the option to Pay other amount.
  3. To proceed with making a partial payment, click the radio button next to Pay other amount.

If you don't see the Pay other amount option and still wish to make a partial payment, please contact your State Farm agent.

For State Farm Billing, you can make partial payments by updating your payment schedule to the Pay Half option.

Here's how to update those settings if you are eligible to do so:

  1. First, log in to the Payment Center: Insurance page.
  2. Scroll down to locate your State Farm Billing account.
  3. Click on Manage and then select Change payment schedule from the drop-down.
  4. Select Pay Half as your desired payment schedule from the list provided and make sure to click Save.
  5. After completing the update, your bill will be updated to reflect the Pay Half amount due. Future bills on that account will also be set to Pay Half.

Your duplicate payments will be handled based on how you paid, when you paid and what payment method(s) you used to submit the payments.

To be considered a duplicate payment, you must have made:

  • two or more payments 
  • on the same insurance policy, payment plan or billing account 
  • for the same dollar amount 
  • on the same business day

If multiple payments were made using the same bank account and submitted within 15 minutes of each other, we will only process one payment.

If only one credit card was used and the payments were submitted on the same calendar day, you will be contacted by email and given instructions on how to receive a refund if the duplicate payment was not intended.

If different bank accounts or credit cards were used for each payment, all payments will be processed.

Sure. Once your account moves to State Farm Billing, be sure to change your payment schedule to pay half after making your first payment.

Here’s how to update your State Farm Billing payment schedule:

  1. Start by logging in to Payment Center: Insurance.
  2. Scroll down to locate your State Farm Billing Account.
  3. Click on Manage and then select Change payment schedule from the drop-down.
  4. Select Pay Half as your desired payment schedule from the list provided and make sure to click Save.
  5. After completing the update, your bill will be updated to reflect the Pay Half amount due. Future bills on that account will also be set to Pay Half.

You can also change your payment schedule by contacting your State Farm agent.


We accept Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) from your checking, money market, or savings accounts and Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.

AutoPay


To update your AutoPay payment method, log in to Payment Center: Insurance, find the billing account you want to update and follow these steps:

  1. Select Manage next to the account number.
  2. Choose Change AutoPay method.
  3. Update your payment method details.

Don’t forget to double-check your changes. We are not responsible for payment errors or delays due to inaccurate information.

Changes to a payment method won't affect or fix previous payments.


Due to federal requirements regarding electronic funds transfers, State Farm must receive your consent before funds are withdrawn from your account.


AutoPay customers who are not enrolled in paperless billing can expect to receive billing statements via email instead of paper when their bill:

  • increases by any amount less than $20 (less than $10 for Florida and Texas customers)

or

  • decreases by any amount

Note: New York and Tennessee customers not enrolled in paperless billing will receive a paper statement if their bill increases by any amount.

Customers must have a valid email address on file to receive an email about these minimal charges. If a customer doesn't have a valid email address on file, a copy of the bill will be stored online in their Document Center.

Billing account management


If it’s your first time trying to view your billing and payment information online, get started by registering your account.

Once registration is complete, you'll be able to log in to view your billing, payment and account information within 48 hours.

With online access, you can:

  • View your current insurance bills
  • Submit electronic payments
  • View bill and payment history
  • Update your bill delivery preferences
  • Explore additional bill management features

You will know you have a new State Farm bill to pay when you receive:

  • A bill in the mail

or

  • An email or text stating that your new bill is ready

To ensure you get an email or text that your bill is ready, follow these simple steps:

  1. First, log in to your account.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click the drop-down arrow and select Profile & Preferences.
  3. Select Communication preferences on the left-hand side.
  4. Under Communication preferences, review your email address and mobile phone number and update, if needed.
  5. Then, scroll down to Notifications and then Insurance bill reminders. Select Yes for the options labeled Email and/or Text, depending on your preference.
  6. Scroll down and save your changes.

To start or stop paperless billing, follow these steps:

  1. First, log in to your account.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click the drop-down menu and select Profile & Preferences.
  3. Select Communication preferences on the left-hand side to choose your billing preferences.
  4. Under Communication preferences, verify your email address and update it as needed.
  5. Under Insurance bill statements, select Email to receive paperless billing notices or Paper to receive paper bills.
  6. Scroll down and save your changes.

You can find your personalized billing and payment information by logging in to Payment Center: Insurance with your cesametal.net user ID and password. 

Troubleshooting


There are a few reasons an unpaid bill could occur on an AutoPay account. Here’s what may have happened:

  • You enrolled in AutoPay after a bill was created: The bill that was created before you enrolled must be paid manually. Your AutoPay arrangement will take effect on the next bill.
  • Your bill was under $4: Our billing system won’t send customers a bill if the amount is under $4.

Here are some exceptions to this rule:

  • It’s the first bill sent on the account.
  • The account has a due date change.
  • The account has a payment method change.
  • The billing notice includes a returned or late payment fee.

Note: The bill will be stored online in your Document Center.


No. The confirmation page is your receipt. After we receive your payment, you are redirected to a new page which includes your proof of insurance. You will also receive an email containing your State Farm confirmation number, policy number and proof of insurance.

Note: If you chose a future date for your policy to begin, your proof of insurance will not be valid until that date.
